Child Dedication
Dedicating Children to God is the expression of Christian parents who are making their discipleship and the discipleship of their children a visible and top priority. One or both parents should be or become active members of GCC, who are presently living out the commitment to Worship / Walk / Work together in the body of Christ.
The dedication of children does not provide any means of salvation for the child. Dedication is more about our responsibility as parents and commitment to live and share the gospel with our children in authenticity. Our prayer is that children will come to understand their sinful condition and trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior as soon as possible. The church and her elders will support each family to the best of our God-given ability.
Parents are publicly expressing before the Congregation:
THANKFULNESS - We acknowledge that our children are entrusted to us from the Lord
- Psalm 127:3 Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. (ESV)
RESPONSIBILITY - Our Children will be raised up for the Glory of God
- Proverbs 22:6 - Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. (ESV)
- Ephesians 6:4 - Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. (ESV)
- Colossians 3:21 - Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. (ESV)
INTENTIONALITY - We will bring up our children within the body life of the church. We will graciously receive love, support, and guidance according to the Scriptures. We are not entering into this commitment lightly but humbly and seriously.
- Ecclesiastes 5:4 - When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow. (ESV)
- Hebrews 10:23-25 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (ESV)
